Handmade from stoneware, this abstract triangular sculpture features a gold ring at its centre that holds a “golden egg”. Inspired by the triangular form of the uterus, it has been turned upside down, encouraging us to view femininity from an alternative perspective. The circular form represents our cycles and in the centre is a golden egg or embryo to convey the possibility of nurturing life. Created by Miyelle at her studio in Hackney, London, this unique piece is part of her latest ceramic collection “Evolving Femininity” which explores, honours and challenges notions of womanhood. The pieces in the collection reflect biological themes such as the cyclical transformation of our menstrual cycle, aging and fertility. While also focussing on the emotional and lifestyle changes we navigate as our lives progress.

The piece is made from textured stoneware with the centre of the triangle glazed in satin cream creating a subtle sheen to contrast with the unglazed outer form. The golden ring and egg are glazed and painted with 24 karat gold lustre where some brush strokes can be seen. The golden egg is suspended with gold lacquered copper wire. There is a softness and imperfection attributed to the handmade nature of the piece with visible textural markings from the clay and making process.
