Handmade from stoneware, this contemporary sculpture features ceramic chains that hang either side of the cylindrical sculpture, adorning the form like jewellery. Created by Miyelle at her studio in Hackney, London, this unique piece is part of her ceramic collection “OOOOO”. The striking yet simple chain motif is present in each item in the collection in a different shape or form, representing unity and connection. These hopeful sentiments are integral today in a world that feels ever more divided and disconnected.
The piece is made from textured stoneware and is unglazed so you can admire the light cream colour of the clay. There is a softness and imperfection attributed to its handmade nature and each chain link is unique. There are visible joins and textural markings from the clay and making process including some tiny hairline cracks as documented in the photos. This piece is intended for sculptural use and is not water tight. If desired, a dried flower or stem can be placed within the slim neck of the piece to be used as a vase.
