Infinite Woman
Handmade from stoneware, this contemporary sculpture embodies the curving form of a woman with a ceramic infinity symbol that sits above the neck of the piece. Within the infinity shape float two 24 karat gold lustre spheres that could be eyes or “golden eggs”, representing female fertility and the power to create and house human life. These are held by delicate gold lacquered copper wire.
The piece is about the vitality and limitless capabilities that women possess. It is an icon of sacred feminine power. A reminder of our multi-faceted nature, our sensitivity combined with strength, our intuition, our humour, our capacity to love and our bravery in the face of challenges. Created by Miyelle at her studio in Hackney, London, this unique piece is part of her latest ceramic collection “Evolving Femininity” which explores, honours and challenges notions of womanhood. The pieces in the collection reflect biological themes such as the cyclical transformation of our menstrual cycle, aging and fertility. While also focussing on the emotional and lifestyle changes we navigate as our lives progress.
The piece is hand coiled from textured stoneware and the body is unglazed so you can admire the light cream colour of the clay. The spheres are glazed with a satin glaze and painted with 24 karat gold lustre with visible brush strokes. There is a softness and imperfection attributed to the handmade nature of the piece with visible textural markings from the clay and making process.
