Fragments Within

£1,050.00

Handmade from stoneware, this abstract sculpture embodies the curving form of a woman. Shapely hollows of negative space within the body allow you to see through the piece, featuring 24 karat gold lustre fragments that float, suspended from gold lacquered copper wire. The piece is about seeing beyond the surface and taking a deeper look inside to understand what’s really going on. Created by Miyelle at her studio in Hackney, London, this unique piece is part of her latest ceramic collection “Evolving Femininity” which explores, honours and challenges notions of womanhood. The pieces in the collection reflect biological themes such as the cyclical transformation of our menstrual cycle, aging and fertility. While also focussing on the emotional and lifestyle changes we navigate as our lives progress.

The piece is made from textured stoneware and the body is unglazed so you can admire the light cream colour of the clay. The fragments are glazed with a satin glaze and painted with 24 karat gold lustre with some visible brush strokes. There is a softness and imperfection attributed to the handmade nature of the piece with visible joins and textural markings from the clay and making process.
